We cut carbon steel with an oxygen assist, which lets the laser cut thicker plate efficiently. Oxygen-cut edges carry a light oxide layer; we tumble or sand parts after cutting, and we recommend a quick surface prep before welding or painting critical faces.

Carbon steel will surface-rust if left bare, so plan on paint, powder coat, or oil for outdoor parts. If you need a corrosion-resistant part with no finishing, consider 304 stainless instead.
